Fold the Sheets Gently

This is entirely un-dog related and I wouldn’t consider myself a great poetry lover however I heard this poem read on the radio yesterday and, as someone who has had direct experiences of family members with dementia and in care, I found it very moving.

Fold the Sheets Gently

She was a dancer
on youth’s stage,
before age crept up
and changed the dance.

Fold the sheets gently
Clean the beds, mop the floors

He was a postman
who carried miles
of letters but at a stroke
he is still as his stick,
as silent as an unopened
love letter.

Fold the sheets gently
Make the tea and make it sweet

She was a teacher,
who remembers the names
of all her students but
not the faces of her husband
and sons.

Fold the sheets gently
all starched and neat

He was a soldier
who survived.
The poppy in his
pullover, the medals
on his chest of drawers.

Fold the sheets gently
Make the bed, kiss my head.

Family is not everlasting,
some are taken some are not.

Fold the sheets gently
close the blinds slowly
turn out the light and
Say good night

Star Wars Puppies

So proud to say that Torsa has had her puppies, a beautiful litter of 6 big puppies, 3 boys (2 black, 1 liver) and 3 girls (2 black and 1 liver). All doing really well and Mum is just fantastic, so proud of her.

This is our Star Wars litter so welcome to Obi-Wan, Yoda, Shmi, Rey, Chewbacca and Leia (I have resisted calls for Darth Vadar, Darth Maul and Kylo Ren 😒)

Pedigrees

Ive always been interested in genealogy and decided to try recording  the dogs pedigree in my genealogy program. It works pretty well but some limitations in naming – person, husband, wife and marriage – not so relevant to dogs and breeding. If you can ignore all that however it works ok to record the lineage and it’s just something I find interesting.

Puppy Updates

Cant believe how quickly time is passing. All our puppies are now well settled in their new homes,  our home is so quiet again, we all miss the puppy cuddles but it’s been lovely to get regular updates and find out how they are all getting on.

Family Portrait : Wooster (Dad), Torsa (Mum) and Talla (Granny) with the babies

With all the babies

5 weeks old

I can’t believe that 5 weeks have passed since the pups arrived. It has just flown by.  I am taking the opportunity of 8 sleeping babies and a respite from uni work to post an update on progress.
All the pups are doing so well and have gotten so big. Average weight at the moment around 3kg, more than 6 times their birth weights. Torsa is doing a grand job. Talla has gained the nickname of Grumpy Granny. She doesn’t stray too far from the babies and keeps a grandmotherly eye out but is definitely not keen on them trying to get a sly feed from her and don’t dare go near her tail! The interactions between generations is fascinating. As an early years professional I am loving watching the puppies going through exactly the same stages as toddlers.

We were delighted that Stuart and Hilary wanted to bring Wooster through to see his babies and really pleased  that we managed to get a good family photo. I think it will be one of my all time favourites.
But then, any puppy photos are adorable.

We’ve been so lucky with the weather and its been great to  have the pups outside playing and gaining confidence – Callum and I have decided that 5 weeks is the perfect age, but I thought that at 4, and 3, and 2, …..

Very pleased to have met all our babies new families, it is so much easier saying goodbye when we know where they are going.
The next 3 weeks are going to be even more hectic but just as much fun I think and will be over far too fast.

Babies are here

Torsa’s babies arrived overnight on Friday March 20th. We have 3 gorgeous boys and 5 beautiful girls. The pups are all doing so well, really great weights and very active and feeding well. Poor Torsa is doing a grand job but I do feel for her feeding 8 hungry little mouths.

We have one little girl still available, please get in touch if you would like more information.
