Family History

This section of the website is a breakaway from dogs and, indeed, animals (although they may feature here and there). Instead, it brings together memories, photographs, stories and places that play some part in my wider family story.

As this section has grown arms and legs, I’m beginning to organise it more clearly. At present there are five sections – click on each to find out more.

Information about individuals and family groups, their relationships, movements and origins. This section brings together family histories, remembered stories, and fragments of lives pieced together through documents, photographs and personal recollections.

These pages explore some of the places that play a part in our family’s story. They include documents, photographs, stories and anecdotes connected to houses, villages, landscapes and the time spent in them.

Moments in time that brought people together — from local celebrations and community events to significant historical moments that shaped family lives. These pages often combine photographs, memories and wider context to place personal stories within their time.

Personal memories, anecdotes and fragments of lived experience. Some are written down long after the event; others survive only because they were told and retold. This section values the small stories as much as the big ones.

Original records such as wills, sasines, letters, certificates and other source material. These documents underpin many of the stories elsewhere on the site and are shared here both as evidence and as historical artefacts in their own right.
