The above newspaper report from the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser describes the respect in which they were held in their community, noting Peter’s lifelong service to the church, Sunday School and the Band of Hope, as well as his long career with the Monkland Iron Company. It also records that they had raised seven sons and five daughters (one of whom was my great grandmother Agnes) and reflects on fifty years of shared “sunshine and shadow”.
