Robert Duncan, my paternal grandfather also served in the war.
Unfortunately with a relatively common name and the fact that many records were destroyed during WWII I’ve been unable to track down any more information on his service.
It’s interesting that his uniform here is very similar to that of Dave Clyne (who would have been Robert’s brother-in-law had he survived the war). On that basis I presumed that he joined the Royal Garrison Artillery.

I have also found this other photo of Grandpa Duncan, a well worn and slightly different version to the one above.
Interestingly this is written on the back

He signs the photo “With best wishes from Gnr R. Duncan. R.G.A.”
So, with the similarity in uniform a confirmation that Robert was a Gunner in the Royal Garrison Artillery.
Sadly, even adding in that detail I’ve come up blank in finding more information about his war service.
I cleaned up the photo and reverse using AI and the results are below :

Interestingly the cleaned version shows also Co-op No 2635 which is very faint in the original.
A lot of guesswork and supposition but I wonder if the photo was kept in a pocket or wallet and pulled out whenever he needed his co-op number?
Sadly, I may never know more 😒
