Bella Duncan married Joe Webster, who often helped in the gardens at Old Montrose. She was remembered fondly in the family for her melodeon playing, which brought music and entertainment to many family gatherings. Bella and Joe lived in Lowerhall Street in Montrose, above a shop that made clay pipes, and she would jokingly say she lived “abun the Pipey.” They had one daughter, also called Bella. “Young” Auntie Bella lived in Putney. She and Dad corresponded regularly and we would occasionally take a trip “south” to visit. Latterly she emigrated to Australia to be close to her son who had moved there some years earlier.
