James Tullis Duncan

James Tullis Duncan, one of Robert Duncan’s older brothers, followed the family’s gardening tradition but built a career further afield. He became Park Superintendent in Aberdeen, reflecting the strong horticultural background that ran through the Duncan family. James married Annie Roy, and they had four children: Jim, Mary, Willie and Bob. Willie later worked in the Aberdeen Fish Market and raised a family of his own, while Bob became well known locally as a talented elocutionist, performing regularly at variety clubs.

We saw the Aberdeen Duncans fairly regularly and I remember Uncle Willie and his wife Auntie Nellie well. She had an extremely strong Doric accent and I can still hear her voice in my head.

It’s sad to think we have no contact with the Aberdeen branch of the family now.
